EMO FASHION

INTRODUCTION

To start with, it is important to note that emo which is short for emotional is a genre of music with roots in punk and some indie rock elements. Named because of the emotional nature of the songs and originates from the mid-80’s punk rock music movement in Washington DC.

Typically an emo song would talk about not fitting in or breaking up with a girlfriend or boyfriend as the case may be, hence the perception among people who are not part of the Emo community that fans of Emo music are angst-filled and despondent.

It became generally accepted in the early 2000s with a band like My Chemical Romance and Jimmy Eat World attracting a huge fan base among teenagers and consequently transformed into an Emo fashion movement.

With distinctive features like thick black rimmed glasses, greasy black hair, tight dull-coloured v-neck sweats use to be nerdier, but with backpacks, fitted hoodies with some patterns on it, vintage band T-shirts and flat shoes, Emo fashion is nowadays considered trendier especially what is currently called scene.

More than the Emo hairstyle probably nothing describes the Emo look, featuring a long fringe brushed to one side of the face or over one or both eyes and dyed black and/or other colors, straightened and layered. Emo hair is commonly generalized by been long in the front and short in the back and sometimes with accentuation of spikes at some angles of the hair.

There are, however, many Emo-like hair styles either long or short to select from. As long as the cut is expressive of a punk rock culture, having its roots in the punk scene Emo goes beyond black with a long fringe. Also, it could be dark brown, blonde, purple or any desired color.
